Carlo Colaiacovo can vouch for forward Damien Brunner: He has a nasty side to him.The two newcomers to the Detroit Red Wings met during December's Spengler Cup. It turns out that Colaiacovo is coming into training camp this month with a sore shoulder, and it's all Brunner's fault. "It was actually Brunner that pushed me from behind into the boards," Colaiacovo said, laughing. He joined a large contingent of teammates forced through one last informal skate today, as they await Saturday's ratification of the collective bargaining agreement and Sunday's start of training camp. The 48-game schedule also should be released Saturday. Colaiacovo expects to be ready for the first game, which is tentatively Jan. 19 at St. Louis, the place he called home the past four seasons. The Wings signed Colaiacovo, who turns 30 on Jan. 27, to a two-year, $5-million deal just before the lockout began in September. Colaiacovo has a tendency to get hurt, but the Wings had to do something to bolster their defense after losing both Nicklas Lidstrom and Brad Stuart.Colaiacovo can move the puck and play on the power play. In 370 career games for Toronto and the Blues, he has 30 goals and 109 assists. Coach Mike Babcock plans, at least for starters, to pair Colaiacovo with Ian White. The two have chemistry dating to when both were Maple Leafs. Colaiacovo had a very favorable first impression of his new team today, and that was even as Pavel Datsyuk remains in Russia to play in this weekend's KHL All-Star Game and Henrik Zetterberg took a day off from skating. "It's my first day with my new teammates, and I'm real happy to be here," Colaiacovo said. "I think the biggest thing I've noticed so far is how much skill we've got up front. Guys are putting the puck in the back of the net like it was their job. It's a real exciting feeling for me."As for Brunner, Colaiacovo has no hard feelings. "It was one of those things," he said. "Obviously, not intentional. It was a tough break there at the end, little stupid play, but it is what it is, and I feel really good right now."I'm hoping to be ready for the start of the season. Each day, it's getting better and each week, it's getting better, stronger. At this point, I'd never thought I'd be feeling this good, so that's definitely something positive."Contact Helene St. James: 313-222-2295 or hstjames@freepress.com. Follow her on Twitter .

Even after an 8-5 finish in 2012, some national analysts are expecting Michigan to regress with the loss of quarterback/playmaker Denard Robinson. Not Phil Steele. In fact, Steele puts Michigan in 2013. Before the 2012 season, Steele projected U-M to finish below expectations (it was ranked No. 8 in preseason) largely because of its difficult schedule. The Wolverines lost to four teams in the Associated Press' final Top 10: No. 1 Alabama, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 8 South Carolina in the Outback Bowl. The other loss was on the road to No. 25 Nebraska."It starts with the schedule, as the Crimson Tide fall off and are replaced by Central Michigan, while Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ohio State all travel to the Big House, where Brady Hoke is a perfect 14-0 in his first two seasons as head coach," Steele writes. "Keep in mind the Wolverines lost to the Irish and Buckeyes by a combined 12 points thanks to costly turnovers, and were trailing the Cornhuskers by a single point before Robinson's injury, which could have been a blessing in disguise, as it got backup quarterback Devin Gardner a couple of starts under his belt."Look for the offense to make major strides with a legitimate passing attack, and the defense will continue to be stout for coordinator Greg Mattison. Hoke will also welcome in one of the best recruiting classes in the country. I fully expect Michigan to top its win total from 2012."Furthermore, Wolverines offensive tackle Taylor Lewan despite being projected as a first-round pick in the NFL draft. You can read more from Steele (though you'll need an ESPN Insider account).

Opening the playoffs with a 19-13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, Foster rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. It was an impressive performance. The Bengals (10-7) are no cream puffs on defense, and defensive tackle Geno Atkins is one of the best in the business. But the Texans’ offensive line still opened holes for Foster, and he ran with power and passion.

But after Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, Reed insisted that his sole focus was on next week's game at Denver, not his future. |

A spokesman for Boehner, Michael Steel said, "The speaker is committed to getting this bill passed this month."In remarks on the House floor, King called the decision "absolutely inexcusable, absolutely indefensible. We cannot just walk away from our responsibilities."The Senate approved a $60.4-billion measure Friday to help with recovery from the October storm that devastated parts of New York, New Jersey and nearby states. The has drafted a $27-billion measure, and a vote had been expected before Congress' term ends Thursday at noon.More than $2 billion in federal funds has been spent so far on relief efforts for 11 states and the District of Columbia struck by the storm, one of the worst ever to hit the Northeast. The 's disaster relief fund still has about $4.3 billion, enough to pay for recovery efforts into early spring, according to officials. The unspent FEMA money can only be used for emergency services, said Rep. (D-N.J.).The 11 states receiving federal aid are: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, New Hampshire, Delaware, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.Sandy was blamed for at least 120 deaths and it battered coastline areas from North Carolina to Maine. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were the hardest-hit states and suffered high winds, flooding and storm surges. The storm dam Women Long Down Jacket aged or destroyed more than 72,000 homes and businesses in New Jersey. In New York, 305,000 housing units were damaged or destroyed and more than 265,000 businesses were affected."This is an absolute disgrace, and the speaker should hang his head in shame," said Rep. (D-N.Y.)."I'm here tonight saying to myself for the first time that I'm not proud of the decision my team has made," said Rep. (R-N.Y.). "It is the wrong decision, and I' m going to be respectful and ask that the speaker reconsider his decision. Because it's not about politics, it's about human lives."

Perhaps the NHL s Jan. 11 deadline for a collective b {keyword} argaining agreement has spurred talks. Perhaps the NHL Players Association threat to decertify as a union by midnight tonight has grabbed the league s attention. Either way, the NHL labor talks have finally reached the point where the two sides are exchanging proposals off the same D {keyword} oudoune Moncler Gilet Enfant document, where they re actually negotiating. The NHL spent yesterday reviewing the NHLPA s latest proposal, then made their own proposal to the players around 9 p.m. last night. After a 40 minute meeting, the two sides adjourned for the night so the players could review the league s offer. The fact that we re involved in a continuous process is something that I m glad to see, but we re clearly not done yet, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters in New York. It s up to the players association to come back to us now in response to what they ve been given this evening. More talks are expected today once the NHLPA gets a chance to see the finer points of the league's offer.
